Saladang Song (meaning second) is the sister restaurant to the Pasadena staple Thai restaurant, Saladang Restaurant, centrally located in a post-industrial building along Fair Oaks. Saladang Song offers more authentic, traditional Thai food than its older, more hip neighbor.
Behind monumental courtyard walls, two palms tower over a sleek indoor/outdoor setting where the waitstaff glides among inquisitive patrons. Patio seating and comfy wicker chairs makes this dining experience a truly different and yummy experience.
The food can be summarized by CitySearch with "Lively flavors start with appetizers like fish cakes and frittery corn cakes, both lightened with cucumber salad. Dishes pack sharp Thai contrasts--savory fish balls smoothed by milky curry, silky rock-cod with resilient shiitakes, and crunchy green papaya salad with spicy lemon dressing. For advanced tastes, there's a perfumy yen-ta-foh soup brimming with an eye-opening sweet-sour broth that's chock-full of seafood. Another rarity: Boiled rice for breakfast, topped with savory meat and vegetables. A dish to die for: Nam-prik Saladang Song, a platter of deep-fried fish, vegetables and rice, served with a dipping sauce ground from kiwis, garlic and chilies."
I am getting hungry just writing this. :-)
Here is a Yelp review from Nancy in Pasadena:
"Not to be confused with Saladang next door, Saladang Song has a much warmer ambiance. I came for dinner with a group of friends and we sat on large wicker chairs and ate by candle light on their outdoor patio. Indoors the lighting is much more pleasing than the harsh florescent lights at Saladang. It's a smaller restaurant and the tables are all set with pretty orchids. The more intimate vibe makes it a better date place.
We had the pad see ew with pork, sizzling seafood platter, steamed chicken, basil beef, green curry with chicken, and brown rice. I love it when restaurants have the option of brown rice! The food was about the same as Saladang. I had the pad see ew at both, and it's just alright. The sizzling seafood platter has a great variety and abundance of seafood, cooked well and seasoned well. It comes with sliced sweet peppers and asparagus all crisp tender. The steamed chicken was just okay, but I forgot to have it with the sauce it came with. Basil beef is pretty darn good. My friend says she gets this every time and I can see why. My favorite dish? Green curry with chicken. It's got just the right amount of heat and comes with sweet peppers, eggplant and chicken in a wonderful coconut curry soup. Everything is better with coconut."

Most of all, I have not tried Saladang Song and I have been going to Saladang for years.
So, let's try some good Thai cuisine in a truly Pasadena setting.
Hope to see you there.

Forget about the Yelp review! This restaurant is completely different from Saladang (One)! It's country-style Thai, and very delicious, and the ambiance at night is amazing. The sweet corn fritters are amazing, and so are the salads - the miang goong (shrimp with chili, lime, peanuts and coconut) and the yum asparagus...delish. And the curry rice with olives, chili and tomatoes is one of those dishes I could eat all by myself...and the green curry with eggplant.
